In 1936, just 40 years after the City of Long Beach was incorporated, Long Beach City Employees Federal Credit Union (LBCEFCU) was established. At the time, our nation was experiencing a historical financial downturn known as the Great Depression. Hard times forced good, hard-working people to seek loans, but banks weren't lending. Out of pure necessity, average citizens began forming credit unions as an innovative financial solution.
Long Beach and Signal Hill city employees were among the first in the nation to embrace the new Credit Union movement, where those who shared their common bond as City employees would pool their savings to make affordable loans available to other members of the group.
As time has passed, LBCEFCU has maintained an impressive history of steady growth and financial stability. As we continue to evolve to serve our membership community we will remain committed to providing secure, convenient and competitive financial resources as well as professional, friendly and knowledgeable service. Though there has been much change, we believe the community we serve today is still very much about people helping people.
